Frequently Asked Questions
Everything Minecraft server owners and players need to know about finding servers, voting, rankings, Gold, and more on Minecraft Index.
Rankings & Listings
How is Minecraft server ranking determined?
Minecraft servers are ordered by their monthly vote total. The more votes a server has received this month, the higher it ranks on the Minecraft server list. Ties are broken by join date: if two Minecraft servers have the same vote count, the one that has been listed longer ranks higher. This rewards active, well-established Minecraft communities rather than just the newest additions.
When do vote counts reset?
Votes reset at the start of every calendar month on Minecraft Index. This keeps the Minecraft server list competitive. A server cannot hold its position purely from historical momentum. Every month is a fresh race.
What is "Server of the Day"?
Server of the Day is a featured Minecraft server that rotates every 24 hours at midnight UTC. It gives the spotlight to a different server from the Minecraft server list each day.
What is "Trending"?
The Trending Minecraft server is whichever server has earned the most combined votes and favorites over the past 7 days. It reflects current momentum rather than all-time standing. A newer Minecraft server with a surge of activity can trend even if it is not yet near the top of the main rankings.
Voting
How does Minecraft server voting work?
Visit any Minecraft server's page and click the Vote button. Each IP address gets one vote per 24-hour window. Your vote adds 1 to that Minecraft server's monthly vote count and moves it up the Minecraft server list rankings. You can see exactly how many votes a server has on its listing.
Can I vote for the same Minecraft server every day?
Yes. The cooldown is 24 hours per IP address, so you can vote once per day. Voting consistently is one of the best ways to help a Minecraft server climb the rankings and get in front of more players.
What are in-game vote rewards?
Some Minecraft servers use Votifier, software that triggers an in-game event when a vote is recorded. This lets Minecraft server owners automatically reward players with items, currency, or bonuses for voting. Whether rewards are offered, and what they are, is entirely up to the server owner. Check the server's page or their own website for details.
Gold Membership
Why do some Minecraft servers look gold on the list?
Servers with a golden glow, golden outline, and a small crown icon next to their rank number are owned by a Gold member on Minecraft Index. They also have a 3D tilt effect when you hover over them. It is a visual signal that the Minecraft server owner is actively invested in growing their community.
What does a Gold membership include?
Minecraft server owners with Gold can list up to 5 servers (free accounts: 1), add up to 7 tags per server (free: 2), save up to 5 favorite servers (free: 1), bump their servers twice per day (free: once per day), and use the staff hiring feature to find Minecraft players looking to join a community.
What happens when Gold expires?
If your Gold lapses and you have more tags or favorites than the free limits allow, the excess are automatically trimmed on Minecraft Index. Any active staff hiring listing is also removed. Your Minecraft servers remain listed; only the Gold-exclusive extras are rolled back.
Bumping
What is a bump?
Bumping a Minecraft server pushes it to the top of the Recently Bumped list. It is a short-term visibility boost on the Minecraft server list, useful for drawing in new Minecraft players on a day when activity is slow or when you have just made an update worth highlighting.
How often can I bump my Minecraft server?
Free accounts can bump once every 24 hours per server. Gold accounts can bump twice every 24 hours. The cooldown is tracked per Minecraft server, so owning multiple servers means each one has its own independent bump timer.
Sponsored Slots & Auctions
What are sponsored slots?
Sponsored slots are five premium placements at the very top of the Minecraft Index home page, the first thing every Minecraft player sees when they visit the server list. They are filled every two weeks through a fully public auction. The top 5 bids win a slot for that period. See the full breakdown on the How Auctions Work page.
How much does a sponsored slot cost?
There is no fixed price. Bids start at $5.00, and the final cost is whatever the Minecraft server community sets through bidding. All bids are public, so you always know exactly where you stand and what it would take to secure a slot.

Hiring & Staff Recruitment
What is the hiring feature?
The hiring feature lets Minecraft server owners mark their server as actively looking for staff: moderators, builders, admins, and so on. When enabled, the Minecraft server appears in the hiring list for 7 days, which is browsed by Minecraft players who want to get involved with a community.
Do I need Gold to post a Minecraft server hiring listing?
Yes, enabling the hiring feature requires an active Gold membership on Minecraft Index. You can turn it off at any time without Gold. Once the 7-day window expires, you can renew it from your server dashboard (Gold still required to re-enable).
Listing Your Server
How do I add my Minecraft server to the list?
Create a free account, verify your email address, then go to Account and click Add Server. Fill in your Minecraft server's details: name, IP address, description, tags, and an optional banner image. Your listing goes live immediately and starts getting your Minecraft server in front of players looking for their next community. Free accounts can list one server.
What is Minecraft server verification?
Verification confirms that you are the owner of the Minecraft server you listed on Minecraft Index. Add the unique token shown in your server's dashboard to your Minecraft server's MOTD (message of the day), then click Verify. Minecraft Index will ping your server, read the MOTD, and mark it as a verified Minecraft server if the token is present. Verification is required before a server can bid on sponsored slots.
Is listing my Minecraft server free?
Yes, listing your Minecraft server on Minecraft Index is always free. You can list one server, add up to 2 tags, and save 1 favorite without paying anything. Gold membership unlocks higher limits and adds features like extra bumps, hiring listings, and detailed analytics to help grow your Minecraft player base.
